Ellie decided to have her 6th birthday at the American Girl Store in Chicago. We have been the past few years to celebrate birthdays of friends, but this is the first time the party will be in her honor.
And then the catalog came on New Year’s Eve with Saige Copeland on the cover, her excitement went through the roof. Saige Copeland is a girl who loves art, has a grandmother who is an art teacher, grandparents in the Southwest, loves riding horses – does that sound like anyone you might know?
While chatting with our American Girl party coordinator, I learned that a personal shopper at no additional charge could have the doll all set up at our table and ready to go for the party. We decided a visit to the American Girl Store in Chicago was in order to make sure Saige Copeland is exactly what Ellie wanted.

The verdict? Ellie is smitten.

And how could you not be?
Saige is adorable with auburn hair, blue eyes and freckles. She comes dressed (to Ellie’s delight) in a Southwest inspired outfit complete with turquoise ring, beaded belt and boots. Other outfits include a cute open sweater with skinny jeans, a ‘parade’ riding outfit and hot pink and gold fancy dress. Pets include a dog and horse, Picasso.
But the most amazing accessory for Saige is not a pet or outfit or accessory. It’s much larger than that.
This hot air balloon holds an 18″ doll and is 49″ tall. That’s taller than the birthday girl herself! The jury is still out on whether the hot air balloon will be landing in our house, but a girl can dream.
What do you think of the American Girl of the Year?

What a wonderful experience for her. My niece got an American Doll for Christmas this year and she is 13. She loves it and it looks just like her (red glasses and all). We are planning a trip to the store next year. You are never too old for an American Doll!
What a super fun birthday party and I love the new American Girl doll! The past two trips we have taken to Minneapolis I have taken my daughter Elle (we also call her Ellie at times). Even though she is only two, I feel you can never be too young or old to enjoy the American Girl Store!
