The Little Style File is beyond excited to share with you a mom that has great style, Vera Sweeney! Vera is the blogger behind Lady and the Blog , I'm Not Obsessed and The Gorgeous Report. Vera Sweeney is a top mommy blogger that inspires us to dream big and proves that mom bloggers can be super successful. We are big believers in supporting other women and moms because let's face it, the more supportive we are of each other as women, the more successful we all will become. If you are on twitter you have heard of Vera Sweeney.
I recently watched this video about Vera and it truly inspired me but it also sparked many more questions that made me want to get to know Vera better.
TLSF: Tell us a little about yourself.
VS: I'm a mom of two and have been married for 10 years. I was born in Manhattan, raised in Queens and now live on Long Island with my family. Some of my favorite hobbies include reading, traveling, hosting small get togethers and trying out new recipes. In 2005, my first blog was born - I'm Not Obsesssed - and I've been writing online ever since.
TLSF: When did you start blogging? What made you do it?
VS: After having my first child, I began searching for a creative outlet. Writing just made sense with my schedule, so I went with it! I chose celebrity gossip because I figured I would always have content as Hollywood never sleeps.
TLSF: What is the one thing you love the most about tbeing a blogger?
VS: I love being able to stay home with my children. Three years ago, my husband and I made the decision that he would also stay home and help me build my brand. It's been a true blessing to have him around during these early years of their lives.
TLSF: What has been your greatest moment as a blogger?
VS: My greatest moment? That's a hard one because this really depends on what angle we're talking about. As far as perks go - I've been able to take my children to Disney several times thanks to blogging. That is something they truly enjoyed and it's a lasting memory for us all. Professionally, I've done some magazine work. Seeing my mug in print is sort of wild for me and the kids. I've also had the opportunity to travel a bit without the kids and have had life experiences that I will never forget (zip lining in Costa Rica, skiing in Utah, attending Miley Cyrus' Sweet 16 birthday party in Disneyland, etc).
TLSF: You do a lot of vlogs, which we love but we know alot of bloggers (ourselves included!) are afraid to do them! How did you start vlogging? Do you enjoy vlogging? We see your husband appear in some of your vlogs...Does he enjoy it as well or do you have to bribe him?
VS: I don't understand why people are afraid of doing vlogs! I hear that all the time and I can't wrap my head around it. I mean - I have friends that wake up and start vlogging with a fresh face (no makeup etc). I will NEVER do that. I need to be semi-presentable when I start recording. So, I guess I too have a little fear of being judged. But in the end, it's all about connecting with your audience. I like to watch certain vloggers and there's no better way to get to know their personality than through video, right? I figure it's the same for my online friends/readers.
My husband PRETENDS that he doesn't like doing video but once we start recording he doesn't shut up! I typically have to edit out about 8 minutes of content. He just goes on and on! He's a ham and I love him for it.
TLSF: Since we are obviously in a digital world these days, how do you disconnect? What is your advice for other moms that struggle with disconnecting?
VS: Read "The Power Of Now". It will change your life.
TLSF: Dinner in our house can be hard, Do you have a go to meal that everyone loves? If so, what is it?
VS: Chicken soup usually is a hit: The BEST and EASIEST. My kids love this lemon pasta recipe but I usually only make it in the spring and summer and as far as side dishes go, my broccoli casserole is number one.
