I shared the planning process of our Mexico family vacation earlier. I am excited to share all of our trip details! We took a direct flight on Frontier Air from Ohare to Cancun. We had a bit of a rocky flight but everything immediately got better when we arrived at Moon Palace. The resort was beautiful.
Both of our families stayed in Deluxe Family suites in the Sunrise section of the resort. We were pleasantly surprised that these rooms were recently renovated. A Deluxe family suite has a double room for the kids that joins our king room. It was great to have two balacony's and two rooms, this made it more relaxing for us and meant we didn't have to go to bed at 8!
The kids were excited when they walked in their room to find beach toys, fully stocked with a mini fridge with juices, chocolate milk, kids snacks, treats and cookies. We loved that their room had a kids room service menu.
This came in handy on a few mornings when we wanted to be lazy while daddy was at golf and on a couple of nights when the kids were just too tired from a day of fun in the sun to make it to a resturaunt. Our room had access to an off site nanny service. We did not need to use it but it is a great option for families that are traveling with kids that are too young to visit the kids club.
My husband and father in law enjoyed 5 days of golf. They chose to tee off no later than 8:00 a.m. each day. We loved the fact that they would be back to the pool by noon to enjoy a pool side lunch. They only had to take a quick golf car ride to the golf course. This was something that when booking our vacation was on our wish list. We didn't want them to have to travel 30 minutes each way to get to a golf course. It was nice they were able to enjoy golfing and still spend time with us in the afternoon!
Moon Palace is a huge resort that is made up of three resorts in one! You have access to over 13 restuaurants. There is a restraunt for everyone! During the day at the pool you can find wood oven pizzas being made right in front of you, taco bars, buffets and more! We enjoyed Palapa Fragata/Palapa Barracuda (they were combinded during our stay due to rennovations) the best! You can never go wrong with fresh seafood. The entire family had a great time at Arrecifes a Brazilian resturaunt. The kids had fun trying a ton of different meats. We loved ordering Mayan Coffee for our dessert, it was quite a show & kept the kids entertained even thought they couldn't drink it.
In Sunrise they have a kids club with planned activities each hour. The kids enjoyed making crafts, getting their faces painted and going on a nature walk. It was nice to be able to drop them off for an hour or two and let them play with other kids while we enjoyed some much needed quiet time! In the evenings the Kids Club came in handy when we wanted an adult only dinner. The kids had fun watching a movie and eating ice cream.
Moon Palace has nightly entertainment that is perfect for the entire family. We enjoyed the Michael Jackson show, Magic Show and a Christmas Party.
As a family we all enjoyed the Teen Lounge/Arcade. They have all of the games you could want and of course are all free! An added bonus! At any hour you could stop in for a popcorn, ice cream and other small snacks. It was nice that even though the Arcade is a Teen lounge, they did allow us to go with our younger kids.
They have a spa that I heard was wonderful but didn't take the time to enjoy it. They just recently opened a Dolphin Experience at the resort. You are able to actually swim with the dolphins in the ocean and not have to leave the resort! We didn't do this only because are children were too young and we would like to do it with them. They also have a Flow Rider which was a lot of fun to watch all of the teenagers and college kids enjoying surfing the waves.
You have access to numerous excurions. We thought about doing the glass bottom boat tour but Since we were traveling with our young kids, we decided to enjoy the pools, beaches and just relax in the sun. One day we did take the free shuttle to Beach Palace, which is on the main strip in Cancun. We had fun shopping, eating at Beach Palace (which was included since it was a Palace resort) and swimming in the ocean. It was nice to see Cancun but we realized that we had everything at the resort that we could ever want and didn't need to leave!
We decided to get our family photos taken my a professional photographer. This is something we are so glad we did! We will always have those memories captured and that is priceless.
We are already dreaming about our next trip to Moon Palace!
