A special thanks to the SITS Girls for inviting us to the Mini Chicago Bloggy Bootcamp! We learned so much about social media and had an information session about Invisalign Teen.... invisalign teen

I was one of the lucky ones who escaped adolescence without wearing braces.  When discussing having children with my husband and the big childhood expenses, braces popped up into the convo.  Immediately I pictured big, silver, chunky metal that looked so painful and kept my friends miserable at home on many Friday nights.  Please don't let my kids need braces, please don't let my kids need braces.

My oldest is six and has just lost tooth #4 with a few other wigglies about to fall out at any second.  The orthodontist said he has seen children as young as 7 in preparation for braces.  Um, that's like really, really, really soon.  And she's got this smile working.invisalign teen

Deep breath.  Here's what we learned about Invisalign Teen:

  • Invisalign Teen truly is the clear alternative to metal braces.  We talked with two teens wearing their Invisalign Teen and you could not tell they were wearing them until you were really close to their mouthes.  From our seats, we had no idea.
  • They are removable but don't think that means the kids won't wear them.  While Invisalign Teen comes out to eat, brush, etc., there are blue dots towards the back that fade from wear.  It will be obvious to parents and dental professionals if the kids aren't wearing them enough!
  • Not all dentists are familiar with Invisalign.  It may take a trip to an experienced Invisalign dentist and a second opinion if you are at first told your child is not a candidate.
  • There are more than 2 million Invisalign cases in treatment or completed worldwide. From very simple to very challenging, Invisalign offers a full spectrum of clear straightening treatments for most types of orthodontic issues. Take the Invisalign Smile Assessment to find out if Invisalign is right for you or your child.
  • When compared to traditional metal braces, clear aligners have many advantages.  Less mouth irritation, fewer office visits, shorter office visits and no 'emergency' appointments.

While I still hope we escape the need for braces all together in our house, it makes me feel so much better knowing that there are clear aligners like Invisalign Teen available to make teeth straightening a little better for everyone in the family.
