It has been my oldest daughter's dream to have a birthday pool party for as long as I can remember.  Her little sister has a Labor Day weekend birthday and has had a pool or beach party most years of her little life.  But poor Ellie with her early March birthday has been blessed with snow each year. Lucky for her, this past summer Aqua Tots opened and they do pool parties.  And do them well.  She was able to pick her theme - Luau, of course - and Aqua Tots did everything from a personalized birthday banner to a themed cake.  With being less than 3 weeks until my due date, this was key for us this year.  I needed the party to go off without a hitch if for some reason I couldn't be there.  With our party set up I didn't worry for a second.

All of her friends were so thrilled to be swimming in the middle of our 4th? 5th? Polar Vortex and everyone just had a blast.

Dressing for a Luau in February can be a bit of a challenge but I went to two of my favorite shopping spots for kids and was thrilled with what I found.  First up, Garnet Hill Kids for swim wear.  Garnet Hill Kids carries brands like Morgan & Milo and Moxie & Mabel.  Their swimsuit selection is fab, especially the mix 'n match styles.  I let the kids pick and the birthday girl chose a parrot bikini ensemble while her little sister went for a bold palm print.

With coordinating prints, you can add in flip flops, cover up, rash guards and event hair accessories that show off your girl's style and personality.  At the party the kids swam first and then celebrated with singing and cake.  To keep the girls' hair under control in and out of the pool, I gave them each French braids.

After the pool hour was finished, the girls each wore a Matilda Jane sleeveless dress while inside Aqua Tots since it is so warm.  When we left, we winterized the outfits by adding cardigans, leggings and boots from their closets so they didn't freeze.

Layering is a great way to break out the spring dresses to beat the winter blues but still stay warm.

Our winter pool party made a big splash!  Have you ever held an off season pool party for your kids?
