Ahhhhh summer! We wait for months for gorgeous weather, waiting to wear our breezy favorite outfits, only to be reminded that sun is evil. Ok, that is an exaggeration, but excessive, unprotected exposure to the sun is no one's best friend. Why not look fabulous while protecting that gorgeous noggin of yours? Here is my guide to the most magnificent summer hats, including an index so you can see what you are working with.
Didn't think there were so many different types of hats, did you? Oh, and how about the fact that they are all under $15? Now the tough part is choosing the style. If you want full face coverage, a floppy hat will obviously provide the most shade. A fedora looks as fabulous with a casual tank top and cutoff shorts as it does with slim cropped pants and a button down. A cloche can provide the extra drama to a dress. How about a raffia baseball hat? What an amazing alternative to cotton and a great way to upgrade your graphic t-shirt and jeans. The boater and bowler looks can be tough to pull off, but you can always swap out the plain band with a printed scarf or ribbon. And of course, the classic cowboy- not just for trips to the ranch.
Of all the beach hats, my favorites are fedoras and floppys. Here are a few of my favorite fedoras:
Chevron Straw Fedora- American Eagle; Tip Top Fedora- Michael Stars; Chambray Fedora- Sperry Top-Sider; Calvin Klein Belted Linen Fedora- Macy's; Pom Pom Fedora- Betsey Johnson; Poplin Fedora with Grosgrain Ribbon- JC Penney
Dare to deck yourself out with a bold design. How about switching up the classic canvas fabric with chambray or linen? If you need a little decoration, grab a fedora with a raffia flower or two.
Now to the floppy hats- these samples prove that you can look amazing while staying shady!

1. A basic white will go with everything! Change up the decoration with a polka dot ribbon, or add a brooch. 2. Get graphic- I adore this bold number. You can wear all white, or pick up the poppy! 3. Earth tone swirls are a perfect complement to a cream patio dress. 4. Pedal to the metal- shine on with this option. Wear this with a simple black maillot. 5. Simple stripes work with a bold maxi dress! 6. The peep of polka dots is just too fun. Go a little retro with a dress that features a slim cut top and full skirt. 7. You can't go wrong with monograms, and this nautical number is great for a navy dress with rope accents.
What is your go-to summer hat? What styles are you thinking of trying this year?
