Now that my kids are getting a little older, they know exactly what to expect over the holidays. The Elf makes her first visit on December 1st, we will decorate cookies with friends at the annual Cookie Party, we visit the REAL Santa downtown, Christmas Eve we go to church and then have dinner at our house and Christmas Day we go to Nonna and Poppa's house.
Sometimes it's easy to get wrapped up in surviving the holidays and just checking to do's off of your list and we forget about why this all matters. Not in a Jesus is the reason for the season kind of way, but in a we are doing this for our kids so they carry these fun and happy memories with them the rest of their lives sort of way. We have, sometimes unknowingly, created traditions for our family these last eight holiday seasons and the kids know exactly what to look forward to every year. At this point if we leave something out or forget to plan a trip to see lights they make sure to let us know! It is a whole new level of excitement watching the holidays through the eyes of your children.
