Mia  will be going through first communion in April. She has been working hard for the last two years and learning a lot in religious education. I admit that I am out of my element when it comes to first communion as I was not raised catholic. I however married into a Catholic family. It is family tradition that my mother in law and sister in law take Mia shopping for her dress. I of course am always in for a shopping trip, especially when it involves pretty dresses! Mia was beyond excited to go shopping for the perfect first communion dress last Saturday.

A friend of mine had told me that shopping for a first communion dress was like a scene from "Say Yes To The Dress"! I wasn't sure what she meant until we were at our local  Von Maur . They had a huge selection of first communion dresses in their store with a variety of price points. Mia tried on at least 10 dress while we were there. We heard moms and daughters fighting! It was very interesting to say the least and made me flash forward to when we are shopping for her wedding dress.
When shopping for a first communion dress have a budget in mind for the entire outfit before you step into a store. You can find dresses from $50 to $400. Most of the dresses we saw at the store started at $100. I found many dresses under $100 while shopping. Fuel up before your big shopping trip and caffeine helps the experience.  Shopping with a 7 or 8 year old girl can be interesting. Make sure you allow her to have her input as it is her special day. You want her to be comfortable and happy at her first communion. Our church doesn't allow purses, gloves or any of the extras, make sure you find out what your church allows the children to wear. I will share first communion accessories and hair ideas with you next week!
