Not only are we getting ready to head back to school, we are also heading back to activities. I've mentioned my daughters are dancers, but they also love gymnastics.

Nine years ago (how is that possible?!) we brought our baby to see Santa at Macy's on State Street and this happened. Quite unsure of the stranger in the red suit that was holding her, baby Ellie twisted her little fingers around his whiskers and gave his beard a tug. This photo was published in the Chicago Tribune in December of 2007 with the title "The Yanks are Comin'!" and our favorite holiday tradition was born.
This is another one of my favorite photos with Santa at the State Street Macy's. Three year old Ellie is like "don't you dare mess up this present thing for me, baby!" She's kind of holding her sister's hand but mostly looking embarrassed.
Even while Santa might not have been Madeline's favorite person her first few Christmases, she loved everything else about our holiday tradition. Walking around the State Street Macy's looking at all of the windows, carefully selecting the perfect ornament to add to our tree and eating lunch by the great tree.
After the visit was over, the girls wanted to make sure Santa didn't forget exactly what they wanted so they dropped their letters in the red mailbox at Macy's.Before we all went to eat by the great tree, the kids wanted to get a really good view so we went up a floor to the viewing stand. Last year the entire tree changed colors. The girls stood and watched in awe!
While waiting for dessert, a fairy visited with us. She sprinkled fairy dust and granted us each one wish.
Join Macy's for an afternoon of family fun with lots of activities for the holidays. Get creative at our crafts table where you can create holiday ornaments, color, and more. There'll also be balloon twisting and more holiday fun to enjoy! We'll see you there!

It's the middle of November and the cold weather has officially hit Chicago. One thing that warms me up is thinking about decorating and giving gifts for the holiday season! We have been fans of Minted for years. Every year we create our holiday cards from Minted's amazing selection. I didn't think it was possible but every year Minted products get better and better. They now have home decor, personalized gifts and artwork.
We are obsessed with their foil pressed products. They are gorgeous and unique.
I love vintage ornaments. I have a collection from my husband's grandmother that I cherish. These vintage metallic ornaments need to find a place on my tree.
If you don't have time to take family photos this year for your holiday cards, no worries! Create your own custom holiday card as a family.
Silhouette artwork is classic. My mom still hangs the silhouette's of my sister and I from when we were young. A gift that any parent or grandparent would cherish for years to come. Minted makes it simple and easy to create a silhouette. How awesome would this personalized wrapping paper look under the Christmas tree! This is wrapping paper you won't want to throw away!
You can save on Minted holiday cards and foil products until 11/16. You can find the deals here.

This weekend The Little Style File is partnering with Gina Cristine Photography for an amazing holiday photo shoot! Not only are we working with wonderful families on their photo shoot style, but we're also shooting the cover of The Little Style File's Holiday Handbook! This holiday photo session is all about plaid. We're mixing prints of family members and accessories. Plaid is a holiday staple, but mixing prints gives it a modern twist. The biggest challenge when selecting outfits for your family pictures is not coordinating pieces. The biggest challenge is making sure everyone in the family looks like themselves. It's easy to pick four outfits with navy and mustard yellow. And Maybe when your children are small it isn't that difficult because your kids' style is really just your style. But as they grow and get a style of their own you need to be mindful that everyone loves what their wearing and feels great. Because feeling great in your outfit is the difference between a good family photo and a fantastic family photo.
The O Family was super fun to work with. They have a tween son and pre-tween daughter who know where they like to shop and have strong opinions on their outfits. Their son is Abercrombie all the way and their daughter loves to mix prints and stand out. Add in a preppy dad, Anthropologie loving mom and new baby and you have 5 totally different styles that need to compliment each other.
Their photo session will take place outside in the fall color and they wanted outfits to compliment the changing leaves. The result is a twirly-boho-preppy-outdoorsy look that will make everyone say CHEESE!
If your interested in our virtual styling services, send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org. Thanks to the O Family for allowing us to open our style files to them! We can't wait to see your pics!
