Personalized Gifts from Minted

Personalized Gifts from Minted

It's the middle of November and the cold weather has officially hit Chicago. One thing that warms me up is thinking about decorating and giving gifts for the holiday season! We have been fans of Minted for years. Every year we create our holiday cards from Minted's amazing selection.  I didn't think it was possible but every year Minted products get better and better. They now have home decor, personalized gifts and artwork. foil pressed art

We are obsessed with their foil pressed products. They are gorgeous and unique.

I love vintage ornaments. I have a collection from my husband's grandmother that I cherish. These vintage metallic ornaments need to find a place on my tree.

Silhouette artwork is classic. My mom still hangs the silhouette's of my sister and I from when we were young. Playchic Fashion Show

Playchic Fashion Show

For the past few years I have attended Chicago Toy & Game Fair with my family. Its a fun event that allows us to check out the hottest toys up close and personal! It's a great way to find out what the kids want to put on their holiday wish list.  My kids and husband look forward to attending it every year. My personal favorite event during Chicago Toy & Game Week is playChic an  innovative runway show that combines fierce fashion with top toys. We are excited to announce this year's playCHIC Fashion Ambassador Panel comprised of some of the most influential Chicago bloggers.

SPRK Learning with a Tiny Robot

SPRK Learning with a Tiny Robot

Meet our new buddy, SPRK!sphero 4

Sphero SPRK Edition is an app-enabled robot that has changed the way Ellie is learning...and playing.  Sphero SPRK Edition and the SPRK app are designed to inspire a love of robotics, coding and STEM principles while teaching the power of cause, effect and conditions in programming - all through play.

Ellie is in 3rd grade this year and will start to learn coding in computer class this year and SPRK has really ignited excitement about writing programs.  Sphero SPRK Edition comes with sample programs loaded for those just starting out on their coding journey.  Or you can create your own programs if you are more advanced.  SPRK even comes with a protractor, pencil and notebook.

Sphero SPRK Edition does so many cool things.  He (we made it a him) can roll in a many different shapes and configurations.  Figure 8's are no biggie for SPRK.  He can also change colors on command and even jump.  So cool!sphero 2 Even when the student is using built in programs, you can always tap the code symbol and see all of the code that runs the program.  I admit that sometimes toys like this overwhelm me or easily frustrate the kids.  But everything about the Sphero SPRK Edition is so easy and user friendly.  Ellie downloaded the app, plugged it in to charge and was having our SPRK do tricks all over the house a few minutes later!

Our Sphero SPRK Edition will be visiting Ellie's 3rd grade class later this month.  Her computer teacher is going to use it to demonstrate coding to the class.  How cool is that?!

The Sphero SPRK Edition robot retails for $129.99 on the Sphero website.

#RealMenBraid | Class with Cozy

#RealMenBraid | Class with Cozy

Girls' hair is intimidating for dads.  Most dads have never run a brush through more than a couple of inches of hair, let alone try to brush through a mess of tangled hair attached to a small girl with ninja like agility. Cozy Friedman, creator of the SoCozy line of haircare products which we LOVE, developed an alternative to dads showing up to dance class with their daughter, brush and pony tail holder.  Real Men Braid is a class taught by Cozy that gives dads hands on training so they will have confidence when it comes to tackling their daughter's hair.

Cozy started off by getting the guys a little pep talk and explaining that doing girls' hair is no different than taking on any project - first you need the right tools in your tool kit.  The tool kit included SoCozy Detangler Spray, SoCozy Brush, SoCozy Hair Gel, bobby pins and pony tail holders.

The dads learned how to brush out tangles, section off hair and be organized with their brushing.

While the girls were getting styled, the baby brothers made themselves right at home in the Snippets Mini Cuts Chicago's play space.  Snippets was such a fun place - little kids can sit in cars and watch a show while getting their hair cut.  They have a great selection of gifts, too!

First, the dads learned a basic pony tail.  Then how to braid it.  If you look in the mirror below, you can see both girls' braided pony tails.

But then the dads took it one step further and did the daring braided bun!  This hairdo is a requirement for ballet class.  I can't tell you how excited I was that Ryan now knows how to do this style!dad and mads hair

Cozy is the best!  This innovative class is a bonding experience for girls and their dads.  It also gives dads confidence and makes that mess of curls seem not so intimidating.  All SoCozy hair products are free of "nasties", work great and smell even better.  Thanks to SoCozy and Snippets Mini Cuts for having us!socozy group(This was our "before" picture)
