It's a new year and that means a new American Girl of the Year!  This year, meet Gabriela McBride.

Gabby is a creative girl who loves to express herself through dance and is using poetry to share her voice.

Like all girls, Gabby has to overcome some obstacles.  Gabby stutters but is working through her speech issues by using spoken word poetry.

There is a lot I love about American Girl, but one of the biggest things for me, as a mom, is the fact that my girls see themselves on the pages of the American Girl books.

Dance Recital 2015

Both of my girls are dancers and both were in, or are currently in, speech therapy.  While neither had a stuttering issue, they were pulled out of class to receive services for articulation issues.  They know the frustration of trying to speak up but not being understood.

Now you may think that this is the first American Girl of the Year that one of my daughters had something in common with.  You'd be wrong.  The first GOTY Ellie had to have was Saige.  Her grandma was an artist (check!) and lived in the desert southwest (check!), then there was Isabelle who was a dancer and trying out for the Nutcracker (check!).  Then Grace who loved Paris and baking (check! check!) and Lea who loves animals (check!).

While each of the past American Girl of the Year dolls have been cute with stylish outfits and accessories, it isn't until girls dive into the books when they get to know the characters and discover how much you have in common.

Gabriela McBride is a gorgeous doll with fun accessories and a great story to add every girl's American Girl doll collection.  For the first time EVER, she will continue to be available after 2017!  We are so excited to learn more about Gabby and her story.  For more information on Gabriela McBride and in store events at an American Girl store near you, visit

Thanks to American Girl for providing our family with the Gabriela McBride doll, sequin outfit and creative studio set.  All opinions are honest and my own.
