This post is sponsored by Let’s Play, an initiative by Dr Pepper Snapple Group that provides kids and families with the tools, places and inspiration to make active play a daily priority by building and improving playgrounds and donating sports equipment to groups in need. Although I received compensation for this post, all opinions are my own.
In our house, sports are very important. This year my 8-year-old son, Dylan has started playing tackle football. He has loved playing football so much. It is a tough sport, very demanding and serious even at the age of 8. He has grown a lot as a person in the last month just from playing football. My daughter who is 11-years-old is playing travel soccer for the 3rd year. The best part of watching your kids play a sport is not seeing them win (that is just an added bonus). I am a firm believer that if you never lose at a game, you won't know how to overcome a loss. I love watching them learn, improve, connect and become friends with their teammates each season.
There is something about comradery that every kid should experience. As a kid, I was a swimmer and played tennis. I still have very fond memories of being on a team and love passing that onto my kids.
Being a sports mom, I am excited to tell you about the Let's Play initiative by Dr Pepper Snapple Group to provide kids and families with tools, places and inspiration to make active play a daily priority. The Let's Play High School Makeover Challenge is a video contest sponsored by the Dr Pepper Snapple Group benefiting student-athletes at underfunded high schools in across the U.S. The winning school will receive $100,000 in brand-new athletic equipment.
A few months back, student athletes (with the supervision of a parent or legal guardian) were encouraged to submit a 60-90 second video with the theme "Because of Sports". Dr Pepper Snapple Group selected its top 20 entries.
Ten finalists will be chosen by the public through a voting process which will take place from September 8-17, 2017. You can vote for your favorite video at this link - http://bit.ly/2wP8Nef - and then a panel of Dr Pepper Snapple and Good Sports representatives will choose the winner from the high schools with the top 10 votes, where the winning high school will receive $100,000 in athletic equipment. To find out more about the High School Makeover Challenge and how to get involved visit www.letsplay.com and follow along with the contest using the hashtag #LetsPlayHSMakeover. Three Chicago high Schools are in the final 20! How cool is that? Go vote!
