Melody Ellison is the newest doll from American Girl in the BeForever historical line of dolls. Melody is a 9 year old growing up in Detroit, Michigan during the civil rights movement of the 1960's. She lifts her voice for equality and helps bring this significant time in America's history to life for our girls today.
The BeForever line of dolls is my personal favorite. Not only is it fun to dress the different dolls up from their time periods, it makes learning history fun. I remember reading the Samantha, Kirsten and Molly books as a 9 year old and learning all about the pioneer times, the victorian era and World War II. The history behind the civil rights movement is so important to our nation's history and the what is still going on in our country today.
While it is so great that American Girl added an African American doll to the collection, Meldoy's stories are important for all girls to know. American Girl counted on a six member advisory board to ensure Melody's stories are historically accurate and represent the times.
Melody was the only thing on Madeline's birthday list and she hasn't put her down since!
Right now there are tons of 60's inspired activities happening all over the country at American Girl stores. To see the fun stuff in your area or to learn more about Melody Ellison, visit AmericanGirl.com.
Thanks to American Girl for sending us a Melody doll for this post. All opinions are honest and our own.
