We live in the suburbs of Chicago, which means if we go into the city, it will be Chicago. Over the years I have realized I can into Milwaukee easier and sometimes faster depending on the traffic! My favorite part of Milwaukee is that its much easier to park and a lot cheaper. I parked for 3 hours one time and it cost $5! In Chicago that would be $30! Don't get me wrong I LOVE Chicago but it is fun to have another awesome city to visit!
We usually do day trips to Milwaukee but last week was spring break. My mother in law and I thought it would be fun to spend the night. This would give us more of a chance to explore Milwaukee at night and in the morning.
We booked the Marriott downtown on hotels.com for $160 which included in and out parking! The hotel was gorgeous and very clean. It appeared that they just went through a renovation. The staff was very friendly and willing to do anything to make sure our stay was perfect. The location was perfect for being about to walk around the East Town and easy to get to the Third Ward.
We drove in on Thursday and went to straight to Lake Front Brewery for lunch. They have a huge food and beer hall. We had a great lunch. They have beer tours but we did not participate. Its right on the river with outside seating. We want to head back there in the summer when we can enjoy the outside.
We had a few hours to blow before we could check into our room. On a whim we headed to the Mitchell Park Conservatory AKA The Domes. We had very little expectations and were pleasantly surprised by how interesting the Dome's were. It was a cold spring day and the tropical and dessert domes made us feel like we were on vacation!
For dinner we headed to the Safe House. Which is a spy themed restaurant. It was a little bit tricky to find at first. I don't want to spoil the fun but we all were very entertained by gaining access into the Safe House. The wait was about an hour but the kids enjoyed going on a secret mission and were entertained by all of the different rooms. It was definitely a fun dinner that the kids absolutely loved!
We walked over to Holey Moley doughnuts from the Marriott for a quick breakfast.
We headed to the Discovery World Museum. It was good Friday and it was very busy.
The Discovery World Museum is a STEM focused museum. We loved all the robotics and mechanic exhibits. They have a smaller aquarium which is cool. We loved the focus on the great lakes. They have something for everyone and for all ages! If you buy a membership to the museum you get access to over 300 other STEM museums over the country. Some of our favorite museums in the Chicago area are included!
My favorite spot in Milwaukee is the Milwaukee Public Market. It is such a fun and unique place. If you are a foodie this should be on your list to check out. They have everything you could want from bakeries, spices, seafood, cheese, wine, beer and more . You can eat in the Palm Garden but also buy supplies to make food at home.
Right around the corner from the Public Market is Shake Shack, West Elm, Anthropologie and many more great spot!
This was not a sponsored post. I just wanted to share what you love about Milwaukee!
