Family Vacation In Captiva Island

Do you have cabin fever? We have been stuck in our house the last few days with record breaking below zero temperatrures! I know a lot of us are dreaming of a warm weather vacation spot or doing research on where to getaway with family for spring break or maybe even sooner. We aren't planning to go anywhere for spring break but that may change!

We recently took a trip to Captiva Island. I have vacationed in Florida a lot over the years but this was my first time in this area. We flew into Ft. Myers and drove to Captiva. It was quite a drive (over an hour) with two kids after traveling.  When we checked into our 2 bedroom beach villa that was located on the beach at South Seas Resort we realized the drive was worth it. That first afternoon we headed down to the beach, while the kids played in the sand, we watched the most amazing sunset!

When we travel with the kids we look for a place that is comfortable for all of us, something we can all enjoy and relax as a family. The 2 bedroom condo was very spacious and nice to unwind in after a fun filled day at the beach and pool. When we are with my inlaws, golf is very important. My husband and father inlaw were able to golf  at The Dunes in nearby Sanibel and also at South Seas, 9 hole golf course.

We were on the South end the resort which we loved because it was quiet but close to the restaurant and shops in the village of Captiva. We rented a 6 person golf cart from YOLO. This was the BEST way to get around Captiva! We didn't ride in a car once we arrived! When we are on vacations as a family we enjoy experience local places. We loved Mucky Duck, a great place to get a drink and watch the sunset but the wait was way too long with kids. We were tipped off that the owner also runs the Green Flash. We ate there twice while we were in Captiva. The location isn't as great as the Mucky Duck but the food and service was great. We also enjoyed a meal at RC Otters. We cooked a meal at home one night and there was a grill out my the pool which was very nice. I highly recommend taking the time to stop at a grocery store in Ft. Myers before heading to Captiva. We did not do this and will defintely stock on the necessities next time we visit Captiva. There are little grocery stores in and around Captiva but of course you pay for the convience.

You cannot visit Captiva Island without enjoying dessert from the famous Bubble Room! I think we picked up dessert from there at least 3 times! The orange crunch cake is out of this world and so is the Key Lime pie!

Our family loves being outdoors and nature. The kids loved walking the beaches and finding beautiful seashells. We made it a point to watch the sunset each night. While on the  beach you might get lucky and see dolphins. We also took a walk in the marina one morning and saw tons of Manatees which was very cool. The kids loved taking the Captiva Cruise and cheering on the dolphins.

South Seas offers a lot of fun activities for families with kids. My kids had a blast being a Pirate and Mermaid for an hour! It is awesome that we have photos of this special memory. Mia had the chance to swim like a mermaid. How cool is that?

If you aren't a beach person, there are many great pools at the resort. Both kids loved H2whoa! and we liked that we could enjoy some fruity cocktails and lunch by the pool. There is something for everyone to enjoy in and around Captiva.

When you are packing up to head home and you wished you could stay a few more days, you know it was a great vacation! We are already dreaming of our next visit to Captiva Island!
