Get Her What She Wants with #RossGifts

"Give her what she wants. Not always what she needs." That is my motto for a successful gift giving season for the lady in your life! Sure, you might need a new washing machine, but please don't pass that off as the gift of her dreams. You can spend a small amount of money to put a big smile on her face- it is all about knowing her style and the element of surprise. Here are some hints on how to shop for your honey:

Check out her Pinterest page.

There is probably a "For Me" section on her page, although it might be hidden. For example, all of the pins I add to my Fashion and Frosting pages (frosting= jewelry in my world...remember the movie How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days? Frost yourself!) are items that I would love to have. You can generally tell if she likes dainty necklaces or statement pieces, gold vs. silver, and the pieces she is lusting after. Here is the necklace I picked out from Ross that was inspired by a pin from my "Frosting" board! Such a bargain I had to keep it for myself:

Pick up a magazine.

Gift guides in my favorite magazines, such as Redbook or Elle, are awesome. I usually circle, add a sticker, or otherwise mark items that catch my eye, whether for myself or others I am planning to give a gift to. I probably won't buy the item in question because, hey, it is the season for giving, but it caught my eye for a reason! You can get it for less at Ross- jewelry, decor, home goods, you name it. Oversize pearls are big right now, and I spied something very similar to this necklace in my favorite magazine! I picked this up at Ross for a lot less than I would have spent at a department store.

What is she buying others?

We usually tend to buy friends and family gifts that we like as well, unless we have been specifically told what to purchase or we see a novelty item that involves a hobby or collection. For example, I adore statement earrings and often buy these for my friends because I think they are the next big thing. Want to wow me? Grab me something that I love to give others; I definitely approve! How about these art deco stunners from Ross?

Make her feel special.

When you choose a piece, you can write a little note and include it with the gift, such as: "I chose this for you because I know how much you love the pearls your grandma always wore." It lets her know that you put thought into the present regardless of the price tag. Ross has gorgeous gifts at great prices- many of the necklaces I found were under $20, but look like a million! My grandma loved to wear costume jewelry and the necklace below reminds me of her style. I also adore the jewelry tree that I purchased to display it- I could afford to buy all three pieces because the prices are so amazing at Ross!

Create a memory.

I love having something sparkly and new to wear, but I love even more having somewhere to wear it to. Get her a gorgeous necklace, and pair it with tickets to a musical of her choice. How about a stunning pair of earrings with a dinner reservation? This way, she can always remember the amazing evening you had when she looks at the beautiful bauble you bought for her.

Gifts for Guys: #RossGifts Are Sure To Please!

Guys. The aren't the easiest to buy for. Anyone with me on this? I search online, in stores, ask friends for suggestions, and I usually come up with something I already bought years ago! #RossGifts: Gifts for Guys

This year, I headed to Ross for everything my guy wants. They even make it easy by putting all the "guy gifts" in a section so you can get in, get out and get on with your wrapping. From stocking stuffers to electronics to designer clothing to car care, they have every interest covered. Check out the awesome deals I found, and a few suggestions on gift baskets to put together for the hard-to-buy-for male in your life.

Small Gifts and Stocking Stuffers

Always the last minute scramble, stocking stuffers can actually be the most useful gifts out there. I like to try for a mix of "need" and "want" in stocking stuffers, with one or two items that will produce a good belly laugh.

A multi-tool keychain is perfect for cutting through the packaging on all those holiday gifts the kids get, and unscrewing the battery covers on all the toys.

Shaving in the shower just got easier with this steam-resistant mirror and clock! He will stay on time and look sharp.

Staying warm in the Midwest is always a challenge- why not grab some battery-operated hand warmers? You can even toss in a pack of the good old fashioned kind to keep in the car for emergencies. I also snagged a "hot seat"- perfect to include in the Sports Fan gift basket below!

Want to spice things up? I found a great 4-pack hot sauce gift pack! You can keep it together or break them up and give them individually. Such a HOT deal I found at Ross!

Gift Baskets

Car Care

Does your guy adore his car? Does he spend more time washing his car than he does washing the dishes? Put together a "Car Care" Gift Basket! Include items such as a Visor Caddy, Heated Auto Ice Scraper, Wash/Wax Kit and a Clear Coat Repair Kit, all found at Ross.

Beer Aficionado

If the man in your life loves beer as much as mine does, this gift basket will be a winner! Pair together items like a Beer Making Kit, Freezer Mug, Bottle Opener from Ross, and a 6-pack of his favorite brew and he will be blown away!

Cocktail King

Does your guy like a more complex drink? Does he love to mix up cocktails for friends and family, always playing bartender at your parties? Update his barware with these fabulous finds from Ross! I bought my husband the massive ice cube tray- the cubes don't melt as fast as regular ones do. Perfect for those on the rocks sips (or even your after dinner cordials). Ross has a great selection of wine openers, flasks and shakers to really mix things up this holiday season!

Does he need a few new items to refresh his wardrobe? A basic v-neck sweater, cozy slippers, a lint roller and updated luggage will keep him right in style this holiday season. Ross has a great men's clothing department, with excellent savings on everything from dress shirts to ties to sweats to coats.

Holiday Traditions from my Childhood (with pics!)

When I think of Holiday traditions from my childhood,  I immediately think of my dad . He was all about the holiday's. He grew up as an only child and making memories with his kids was very important to him. He usually took us skiing in Northern Michigan either before Christmas or after depending on how our Holiday vacation fell on the calendar. Piling in our Station Wagon with our skis, holiday gifts (we would spend Christmas at my cousins & grandparents) and spending time together is a memory I will never forget.

That's me with my Dad! Probably my favorite picture of all time.

You always knew if you received a gift from my dad because it was wrapped in newspaper! It was his signature. I lost my dad to ALS 8 years ago and I hang on to all the special holiday memories he created with me.

My sister and I with Santa. I was probably about 9 months old.

My sister, Dad and I (and some creepy doll).

It makes me realize how important it is create special holiday memories with my own family. Whether they are similar to the ones that my dad and mom created  with us or new traditions we create with my own family. We try to celebrate the holidays from before Thanksgiving until after New Years in many different ways. We like to do crafts, attend the Chicago Toy & Game Fair,  go to a holiday show, take a car ride to check out houses that are decorated for the holidays in our town, donate toys and go to breakfast with Santa are just some of the things we do during the holidays season. . Thanksgiving is just days away and of course that means many of our holiday traditions are based around food. Nothing wrong with that, right?

For more than 60 years Hickory Farms gifts have been a classic holiday tradition that brings family and friends together. If you are like me than you most likely  have distinct memories of Hickory Farms from growing up. I have fond memories of visiting our local mall with my parents and stopping in the Hickory Farms store. You could find me near the samples tasting the yummy cheeses and the signature summer sausage. You can find amazing gift ideas on their site, and their products in over 600 retail holiday Markets, Kiosks and select retail stores in North America. A tray of meat and cheese from Hickory Farms was always a treat at Christmas dinner.

Hickory Farms not only embraces passing down traditions through generations of families, but also creating new traditions and sharing them with loved ones.

My kids at Rudolph in Chicago last Christmas.

What are your favorite Holiday Traditions?
