Thank you to Wizard of Oz Chicago for inviting us to see their amazing show!
It was fitting that this is how the sky looked as we drove into the city to see the Wizard of Oz, now playing at the Chicago Theatre. With the kids piled in the back of the car, we thought we might calling out for Auntie Em before the curtain ever went up.
Thankfully we avoided the down pours and made it into the Chicago Theatre mostly dry. Ellie (11), Madeline (8) and Will (4) were all so excited to see the Wizard of Oz. The girls had watched the movie when they were littler and we even did a group Halloween Wizard of Oz costume a few years ago.
We loved that the show literally went green. The programs are available to view and download online but were not passed out at the door.
The Chicago Theatre has been my favorite theater since my family went to see Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat when I was little. It's just so gorgeous and it seems like there are no bad seats.
Finally the curtain went up and we were treated to a magical production of the classic 1939 MGM movie, with great costuming and visual effects.
While the Wicked Witch was definitely still wicked, she also brought some humor to the role which made the show not very scary for little ones.
This truly is a family show for all ages but you know your kids best. There was a group next to us who didn't even make it to the twister because the youngest in their family started crying. I felt terrible because they never did come back to their seats.
The cast of the Wizard of Oz was just amazing. But what the kids couldn't stop talking about was Toto. Toto is a rescue dog and just the cutest terrier mix. We may now be following his hashtag on Instagram now.
