When a girl is in love with hedgehogs and asks for a "hedgehog birthday party", you google "companies that bring hedgehogs to birthday parties" and turn your house into a woodland wonderland.

Minted, again, comes through with the perfect woodland birthday party invitation.  Did you notice there's even a hedgehog?  The banner between the trees is custom and can say anything you would like.  They easily turned it to N-I-N-E for us and the invitations were even printed with the recipients addresses for free.  Love Minted!

For party decor we used turquoise, coral, creams and greens.  We draped the wall behind the cake table with fabric and then hot glued the fans into a shape and used straight pins to attache it to the wall.

This party was all about the details.  A green moss E with burlap rosette personalized the cake table.  Ellie's Nonna wood burned the forks with birthday messages and made tags for all of the goodie bags.  Burlap and lace decorated the vintage milk bottles with color coordinating paper straws.

The hedgehog cake from West Town Bakery in Chicago was almost too cute to eat.  Almost.  We also had woodland animal cookies made for all of the guests to take home.

The girls dined on glass plates from the '40s that belonged to Ellie's great grandmother.  Adorable floral napkins and cups for veggie sticks added a little extra color to the table covered in butcher paper and decorated with small plants.

The backdrop for the conservationist was the fireplace and "forest" in the living room.  The fireplace was decorated with topiaries, a moss E, bunny, flowers and burlap banner.  The trees for the forest were borrowed from a local shop and totally transformed the space.

The girls made their own journals with fabric and modge podge.  They each brought home a journal and twig pencil to write about their favorite animals.

The animals were the stars of the party.  In our living room we had two hedgehogs, a fox, skunk, talking parrot, boa constrictor, guinea pig and a few other animals.  The guests had tons of questions and Ellie got all of the info needed on how to be the best hedgehog owner ever.  The jury is still out on whether a hedgehog will be a new member of our family!

The Woodland Birthday Party was a huge hit with Ellie and her friends.  They loved learning about and touching the animals, doing a craft and eating hedgehog cake!  If you would like to know more about the details of the party, feel free to leave a comment.

Happy Birthday to our sweet, animal lover Ellie!  We know 9 will be your best year yet!
