American Girl #TrulyMe

We (and by we I mean the girls and moms) are excited to share the launch of a new line of look-like-me dolls from American Girl called Truly Me!   The Truly Me line allows girls to choose their doll from 40 different combinations of eye color, hair color and style and skin color. Each Truly Me doll will now come with exclusive play-based content directly in the doll box (48+ ideas for girls to do with their dolls) as well as a new, free digital play experience online that will accessible to all girls on all devices.

Ellie chose the blond doll with wavy hair and brown eyes.  The blond on this doll is a darker blond, not super light, which is perfect for her.  She has been waiting for a doll with her features and was so excited find Truly Me doll #24.

Review: My son is 3 1/2 and it is truly tough to find activities that are designed for his developmental stage and hand-eye coordination. I opened this box and with minimal explanation, set him loose to see what he could do with it. I loved the fact that the images for painting were basic, with large letters and a simple concept. At his age, many coloring books are too busy and don't allow him to focus on one concept.

The number of extensions available make this box expandable ten times over, and allows kids to think outside the box (no pun intended!). They also rate the activities based upon multiple factors, including messiness and grownup involvement, which I haven't seen in many other arenas. By scanning the QR code on the back of the Grownup Assistant guide, you can access many other theme-related activities as well that are age-appropriate. The imagine! magazine that accompanies the box has interactive songs, stories, and activities that are similar to those in the Highlights magazine. The items in the box are all incredibly well-made, able to withstand the rough and tumble exploration that goes along with this age group, and that includes the magazine which is made from sturdy card stock!

Disclosure: I received a complimentary Koala Crate for review purposes. All opinions are honest and my own.

Holiday Style with Savers!

My little one just turned a year old (eek!!) and she grows out of her clothes in approximately two weeks at this stage. Since I had a son first, I didn't have the opportunity to buy all the cute dresses I drooled over. Now that I have Charlotte, I have someone to wear them but quickly realized that my budget didn't include purchasing new outfits every two weeks! I started shopping at Savers for her, and it has made a huge difference in the amount of adorable outfits I can afford. Some of the brands I have found there include Gap Kids, Janie & Jack and Crew Cuts, all for a fraction of the price that I would have paid originally. The clothing I found has always been in excellent condition! I also love purchasing winter accessories for the kids- hats and mittens, which my little ones lose on the daily.

Here are some holiday looks that I put together for Charlotte this year. Most pieces were under $5 each- no breaking the bank, but (although I am biased) I think she looks adorable!

Holiday Style for the Little Ones from Savers!

This red wool dress is Janie & Jack that I picked up at Savers- it kept her warm and cozy when we went to the holiday parade!

Red Plaid Dress from Savers

Plaid is on trend right now, and adding a black ruffled cardigan brings it into the winter weather we are having.

White Faux Fur Vest from Savers

How about this ADORABLE faux fur vest? Yep, under $5 at Savers.

Holiday Dress from Savers

This fancy frock is originally from Gap Kids, but I found it at Savers for a lot less!

Now it is my turn!

I need a few new key pieces for the winter. I headed to Savers with a mental list of what I wanted- a new dress coat, warm winter hats, possibly a dress or unique shoes for the holidays.

Fur Coat for the Chilly Winter Months from Savers

Take a look at the coat I found! I recently wore it to the playCHIC Fashion Show and had many of my fellow fashion bloggers admiring (and petting) my new acquisition. My theory is if you life in a cold weather climate, your coat should be your biggest investment. This is a classic piece that I will keep and hand down to my daughter and regale her with tales of my wild nights on the town (that usually end at 10pm at this point in my life).

Hats from Savers- Fabulous Fashion for Less!

A winter hat, in my world, needs to provide both form and function without totally crushing my holiday hair that I worked for way too long on while simultaneously shaking a rattle with my foot to Charlotte and singing Jingle Bells over and over to Bryson. How do you like the three that I found, two of them were a DOLLAR?

DIY Fancy Hat from Savers

Want an easy hat DIY project for under $10? Purchase a felt or wool hat, a coordinating men's tie, and a pair of earrings. Wrap the skinny part of the tie around the band area of the hat and affix with hot glue. Break the back post off the earring and use hot glue to affix it to the hat. Voila! You just gave an old hat a new trick ;)

What pieces are you searching for in your holiday bargain hunt? Make sure to head to Savers this holiday season for all your style needs!

Disclosure: I was provided with gift certificates to Savers for review purposes. All opinions are honest and my own.

3 Fun Family Crafts This Holiday Season

3 Fun Family Crafts This Holiday Season

Every holiday season as the kids get older we try to create fun crafts to commemorate the year.  We started out years ago making hand print Christmas trees and have upgraded to ornaments and yarn trees.  This year we are teaming up with Elmer's Painters® Paint Markers and sharing three fun family crafts you can do with your kids this holiday season.

1. Personalize a Picture Frame

Instead of exchanging gifts with cousins this year, we brought the girls to have manicures and share the experience together.  They had the best day and there might even be a tiny bit of turquoise sparkly nail polish on a five year old's fingers.  Even though we said the experience would be the gift, my oldest daughter thought printing a picture and framing it would be a great touch to give her cousin at Christmas. elmers 3.jpg

Using the Elmer's Painters® Paint Markers, she decorated a metal frame in pink and black with her cousin's name and can't wait to give it to her over winter break!

Using Elmer's Painters® Paint Markers makes 'painting' easy for the kids.  She wouldn't have been able to control a paintbrush as easily and this cute memento could have turned out not so pretty.

2. Personalize Ornaments

This was a big year in our family!  Not only did we get a new house but we also got a new baby!  To create personalized ornaments just purchase a box of glass ornaments at your local craft or big box store.  Once you have your clear glass ornaments and Elmer's Painters® Paint Markers there are a couple of different directions you can go.

The first way to personalize could be to insert a picture into the ornament and then use your Elmer's Painters® Paint Markers to write names and/or dates on the ornament.

Another way to personalize ornaments this holiday season is to write your child's name (or have them write their own name) in the center of the ornament.  Then discuss what design they would like to create and hand over the Elmer's Painters® Paint Markers and let them go to town.  Older children might have gorgeous creations while the younger children might just have a collection of colorful scribbles.  Either way it will be something to treasure on your tree!

The third way to personalize the glass ornament is to fill it with glitter, cut paper, or anything small and then have your older child write your last name and the year on the ornament.

Mom tip:  use the plastic tray the ornaments came in for decorating!  It's a safe and easy way to keep the ornaments from rolling or breaking.

3.  Personalize a Banner

Banners are still on trend this holiday season.  Craft stores have blank banners made of different materials available for cheap that you can personalize with your favorite holiday word or family name.  We used a burlap banner and our black Elmer's Painters® Paint Marker to design a Believe banner.  It was fast and easy and makes our holiday mantel a little more special.

No matter what holiday crafts you are doing with your family, be sure to have the Elmer's Painters® Paint Markers on hand for easy and mess free crafting!
