Be the Designer at the American Girl #TrulyMe Signature Studio

Thanks to American Girl for partnering with us for this post. If you've been a reader of The Little Style File for awhile you'll know that we are huge American Girl fans.  My sister and I had American Girl dolls when we were kids.  We've had American Girl birthday parties at the Chicago store as well as an American Girl sleepover party at our house.  Our girls love each doll of the year and went crazy over the new Truly Me dolls.

But the new American Girl Truly Me Signature Studio takes things to a whole new level.

Girls can design their own backpacks (that double as doll carriers), doll pajamas, dress or tunic and leggings.  Here's a video of our Truly Me Signature Studio Experience so you can see how cool this really is.

The girls can use tablets to design their own outfits or backpacks using a variety of different patterns and images.  You can even add a photo of you and your doll!  The girls had a great time mixing patterns and images to create a design that is "Truly Me."

After the girls designed their doll outfits and backpacks, they waited about 20 minutes and then their designs were ready.  The excitement was contagious as each girl received their one of a kind outfit and backpack.

The girls absolutely loved how it all turned out.  They were so proud of their creations and happy to show them off...to just about anyone who would look!

The American Girl Truly Me Signature Studio is only available at the flagship locations:  Chicago, New York and LA.  Production times can vary based on how busy the store is at the time.  For an excellent shopping experience, contact a complimentary personal shopper who can schedule your meals, hair salon and Truly Me Signature Studio Experiences.  Our personal shopper was beyond AMAZING!

Above all, we love American Girl because they make our girls feel special.  In a time when girls are growing up so fast,we appreciate that American Girl keeps our girls girls.  American Girl inspires our girls and lets them discover themselves through history.

American Girl #TrulyMe

We (and by we I mean the girls and moms) are excited to share the launch of a new line of look-like-me dolls from American Girl called Truly Me!   The Truly Me line allows girls to choose their doll from 40 different combinations of eye color, hair color and style and skin color. Each Truly Me doll will now come with exclusive play-based content directly in the doll box (48+ ideas for girls to do with their dolls) as well as a new, free digital play experience online that will accessible to all girls on all devices.

Ellie chose the blond doll with wavy hair and brown eyes.  The blond on this doll is a darker blond, not super light, which is perfect for her.  She has been waiting for a doll with her features and was so excited find Truly Me doll #24.

#RossGifts: Toys for my Tots!

Since we live in the Midwest, winter can be brutal, forcing my little ones and I to stay inside for days at a time. When I shop for toys for the holidays, I have my eye on items that provide hours of indoor entertainment. This year, Santa made a stop at Ross for the best toys at unbeatable prices. Surprise! Toys from Ross! #RossGifts

Gifts That Bring Back Memories

I distinctly remember my first Cabbage Patch Kid. She had adorable dimples, blonde braided pigtails, and her name was Elizabeth. The first year Cabbage Patch Kids came out, my mom was determined to get one for my sister and I. Since I grew up in a smaller town, there was no way she could find one on the shelves of the local toy store. My mom asked my aunt, who lived in San Diego, to source them and ship the dolls to our home in Michigan. That Cabbage Patch Kid has been with me for almost thirty years, and I can still remember the feeling of excitement sheer joy when I unwrapped her on Christmas Day.

This year, I bought a doll from Ross for my daughter- her first doll (pictured above)! I am so excited to watch her care for and love her just like I did. In future years, I can teach Charlotte to make clothes for her doll just like my mom and grandma taught me. I can still remember sitting next to my grandma, watching her crochet clothes for my dolls, with bags of yarn surrounding her. What a wonderful tradition to pass down from generation to generation. Here is a photo of my doll (on the left) and Charlotte's new doll!

Gifts That Educate

It is amazing how much kids can learn through play. Watching your child discover a new skill or figure out how to put together a puzzle is a true gift. I bought my daughter a cookie counting toy to help her with both hand eye coordination and number recognition. We were on a play date when my gal discovered this toy at a friend's house. I had no clue where to purchase it, so was thrilled to find it on the shelves at Ross!

This year, I plan to put the cookies on the plate for Santa! We can practice counting cookies until Christmas Eve, then put them on the plate next to the ones we make at our annual cookie decorating party.

Gifts That Put a Smile on Their Face

My son loves cars. He sleeps in a racecar bed with car sheets, blankets and pillow. The decorations on his walls? Vintage car signs. The t-shirt of choice most days? You guessed it- anything with a car on it. I found a remote control Lamborghini for less than $20 at Ross! I know my son will have a blast setting up obstacle courses and driving it through tunnels made from boxes and blankets. I also found a pullback racer on the clearance rack at Ross. At $2.99, this was a steal for a toy from his favorite movie of all time- I KNOW it will put a huge smile on his face!

Here are a few other ideas for indoor gifts for the kids, and I found all of them at Ross:

Art Easel: purchase this and stock it with construction paper, paint, brushes, crayons, markers, glue, glitter, stencils, and a colored pencil kit!

Play Kitchen: open up a "restaurant" with your little one and have them make meals for your family

Bowling Set: Make your entryway into a bowling alley if you have wood floors! Make popcorn, serve root beer, and wear special shoes decorated to look like bowling shoes

Pet Grooming Station: Have everyone in the family bring their favorite stuffed pet to the grooming station. Stock it with bows, ribbons and barrettes to make your pets look their best!

Musical Instruments: Buy a toy guitar, tambourine, drum, and harmonica- let everyone in the family have their own instrument! Put together a band with a name, costumes and an easy song to play.

Make sure to enter the Season of Savings giveaway on the Ross Facebook page! Check it out for this week's challenge- HINT: It has to do with toys! You can also upload your best toy or gift finds to your Instagram account and add the hashtag #RossGifts to enter.

What toys are you planning on purchasing for your little ones this year?

Disclosure: I was provided with gift cards to purchase items for review purposes. All opinions are honest and my own.

#DisneyKids Sofia the First Princess Playdate

My preschooler has loved Sofia the First from back when she was just a girl in the village doin' alright.  Madeline even had a Sofia the First birthday party last year.  So when we were chosen to host the #DisneyKids Sofia the First Princess Play Date she was thrilled!

Madeline helped with all of the planning - we looked through tons of play date ideas and settled on coloring pages while guests arrived, BINGO!, Sofia Says, fortune tellers and a Princess Dance Party.  She wore her most favorite Sofia dress for the play date with amulet, of course, and pulled out her Sofia the First Castle to share with her friends.

We decorated our party area together and each guest was welcomed with a tiara and bracelet.  The table decorations really set the tone for the afternoon and we had snacks ready to go for our girly girl friends.

#disneykids princess play date

We had a costume stand ready to go in case any friends forgot theirs or wanted to switch it up.  A Sofia puzzle kept Madeline entertained while she (im)patiently waited for the rest of the princesses to arrive.

Once our friends arrived it was time for the real fun to begin!

As you can see the decorations make the play date fancy, but the girls just had the best time being together.  The princess were able to continue the fun at home with their Disney Side Chore Charts and luggage tags.  The luggage tags were perfect because two of our guests are going to Disney World next week!

Thanks to MomSelect for providing everything we needed for the perfect Princess Playdate!  For playdate ideas of your own visit http://disneysidecelebrations.com.

I received free products in order to host the Disney Kids Preschool Playdate.  All opinions are honest and my own.

Hot toy Alert: LeapTV

Its that time of year when you are flooded with toy commercials and catalogs. My five year old son spent 30 minutes yesterday circling his favorite toys and that means he ended up circling almost everything in the catalog! It can be overwhelming for kids to choose what they want to put on their Christmas list. As a mom it is just as hard to decided what Santa should put under the Christmas tree. I want my kids to receive toys that will have longevity.

My kids both play games on our iPad's but we they don't have a game system. We are big fans of LeapFrog in our house and I was excited to see that they designed LeapTV for kids 3-8 years old. The game system is all about getting the kids active while teaching core skills in a variety of subjects like reading, math science and even problem solving.

My husband set the LeapTV up in our playroom for the kids. Once it was ready to go it was super easy for the kids to use it. The kids both think the motion sensing camera is cool. Mia is eight years old and has been enjoying the dance  and learn games. You can play solo or with several friends! The other day, Dylan invited 2 of his friends to check it out after school. Watching the boys play the LeapTV made me fast forward about ten years when they are teenagers!

Dylan has already circled a few LeapTV games that he would like Santa to bring him. I like that the library of 9 cartridge games are LeapFrog educator approved games. Combining educational and fun together make this mom happy!

Disclosure: I was provided with a LeapTV from MommyParties. My thoughts and opinions are honest and my own.
