One Tank Trip: Milwaukee

We live in the suburbs of Chicago, which means if we go into the city, it will be Chicago. Over the years I have realized I can into Milwaukee easier and sometimes faster depending on the traffic! My favorite part of Milwaukee is that its much easier to park and a lot cheaper.

Fun Things To Do in Chicago: Chicago Electric Boat Company #CruiseCEBC

I moved to Chicago after graduating from college over 18 years ago. From the moment I arrived in Chicago I fell in love with the city. Chicago is a very special city. Its well known for its architecture and of course food! There is nothing better than summer in Chicago. Am I right? We all enjoy the lakefront, the RiverWalk , sports (go cubs!) , festivals and much more!

One of the best way to take in the architecture is from the Chicago River. I have been on several tours on the river but this summer I discovered Chicago Electric Boat Company. I had no idea that you could rent an electric boat and take a cruise on the river!

I am still hanging on to summer (luckily the temperatures have been cooperating) and booked a 2 hour cruise last Saturday with the Chicago Electric Boat Company. I gathered Kristin, my sister, mom and sorority sister and we packed up some snacks and sangria to head out for a cruise on the river!

It was a perfect September day. We cruised all the way down to China Town and back to the Lake Michigan Locks. It was a great way to take photos of our favorite city.

Chicago Electric Boat Company makes the experience safe and easy. You meet them on the river front below House of Blues. They will validate your parking if you park at the House of Blues. You watch a video, a captain will go over safety instructions, how to drive and you will also receive a walkie talkie that will allow you to communicate with the Chicago Electric Company. You will then be on your way! You can get a captain to drive the boat for an additional charge.

We received a 2 hour boat trip by Chicago Electric Boat Company for review purposes. Our opinions are honest and our own.

Hyatt McCormick Place Chicago

I have lived in Chicago for over 18 years and half of that time I have spent in the suburbs. We love coming into the city for dinner, events and concerts. What I don't love about Chicago is the traffic. When we were planning to go to Taylor Swift at Soldier Field a few weeks ago, I knew that we would need to stay overnight in a hotel. Staying in the city is always fun anyways!

I wanted to stay at a hotel that we could easily walk to Soldier Field with our girls. The Hyatt McCormick Place is the closet hotel to Soldier Field and it is a very easy  10 minute walk. The Hyatt was offering a $179 rate for the weekend. If you have stayed in Chicago at a hotel, you know that is a good rate.

We stayed in a gorgeous suite on the 29th floor with a double room and king room that were connected. All the rooms were modern and newly decorated. It was a perfect set up for all of us to sleep comfortably.  The suite allowed us to entertain and get ready with our friends before the concert.

The views were amazing from every direction of our suite and rooms. The view of Chicago never gets old.

Getting a big enough space to allow all the girls to get ready together before the concert was an amazing experience in itself. Of course we had to have a photo shoot in our suite!

It was a very easy and safe walk to  and from Soldier Field.

We were smart and ordered pizza's to be delivered to our hotel. The pizza's were at our hotel when we returned at 12:00 a.m. It was much needed after a long night of singing and dancing with Taylor Swift! The Hyatt McCormick has several restaurants, lounges and a Starbuck's. They have something for everyone in the family. We enjoyed a nice breakfast with our girls the next morning at the Shor restaurant. If you are coming to Chicago for the Air and Water Show or another event, make sure you check out the Hyatt McCormick Place. They  have a lot special offerings, such as the suite experience package and Air and Water Show package.

Family Travel: Explore St. Louis

Family Travel: Explore St. Louis

Growing up I went on a ton of road trips with my family. My kids are at a good age that we can now go on long car rides without a problem. I decided that this summer would be a good time to start exploring the Midwest.  A few weeks ago my kids, mother in law piled in the car and headed to St. Louis! I had only been to St. Louis for a wedding about 10 years ago. We were all excited to Explore St. Louis!

The kids got  super excited when they saw The Gateway Arch and Busch Stadium (even if we are Cubs fans it was cool to see!) and the "Are we there yet?" finally stopped.  We drove directly to Forest Park, which is in the heart of St. Louis. You could spend several days exploring Forest Park, its the 7th largest urban park in North America. It also contains all of the St. Louis major museums and the Zoo. Our first stop was at the St. Louis Zoo, which is a free Zoo.

It was a hot day and we were ready to check out our home for the next two nights. Hotel Ignacio is located in Midtown and near Saint Louis University. It is a cool boutique hotel, has reasonable rates and  was very family friendly. We loved that Hotel Ignacio was centrally located to everything we had planned to do while visiting St. Louis. The hotel has two restaurants which was very convenient especially when traveling with kids. We found ourselves starting and ending our day at Triumph Grill.

We headed out the first evening to visit the Gateway Arch up close and personal! It is something to see in person and not just from the highway. It was fun to go up in the arch and be able to cross that off our bucket list.

We decided to skip breakfast on our 2nd day in St. Louis and go to Pappy's Smokehouse for an early lunch. This was the best decision ever! The BBQ blew us away! If it weren't for the long lines, we would of gone back and brought pulled pork home with us. If you are ever in St. Louis, you must eat at Pappy's.

We headed to City Museum. I will be honest, I didn't know what to expect when we first stepped into this unique place. It is housed in a former international shoe building. You will find repurposed architectural and industrial objects through out your visit. Once you get your kids into the City Museum they will not want to leave!! They do not have maps but that is the best part of the adventure!  Mia and Dylan had a blast exploring every inch of this place. I  went down the 10 foot slide and on the Ferris Wheel with Dylan. We paid an extra $5 to go to the roof, which was a perfect way to tend the day. My mother in law and I were able to sit back in adirondack chairs and enjoy a cocktail (yes they have Bars in the city museum!). The kids already want to go back to City Museum.

We had worked up quite an appetite exploring the City Museum for 5 hours. We headed to Fountain on Locust for dinner. Since we were in vacation mode, I let both of the kids start of their meal with a float. They of course were in heaven! The menu was unique but also had something for everyone in the family to enjoy. We went overboard on the desserts but isn't that what vacation is all about? We had a blast visiting St. Louis. It is a very family friendly city. The only complaint I have is...we wish we had stayed longer! Until next time St. Louis.

Don't forget to enter this amazing giveaway!  You will win a a 2-night stay with an attraction, dining and entertainment package valued at over $250, the total package  itself worth  over $500! It will make the perfect family road trip!
