Home Grown Books Review & Giveaway!

I love reading to my little one (and discovering new reads) so needless to say I was pretty excited to have the opportunity to review the Adventure Set from Home Grown Books.

Home Grown Books is an eco-friendly company consisting of educators, artists, and parents dedicated to enriching the minds of young readers by providing an organic learning experience. What I loved about these books is that they are made of recycled paper with no harsh dyes.  All of the illustrations are water color images created by local artists in NYC!

I had the pleasure of reviewing the Adventure Set which contains 7 books featuring water color paintings by artist Case Jernigan. The Adventure Set is a new collection which includes various themes such as kings, inventors, knights in shining armor, as well as exploration (flying, submarines, maps). How fun!  My toddler found the images and simple wording very engaging and I loved the creative side each story offers by asking questions at the end of each book. This book set will definitely stay in our home library for years to come.

If you are looking for creative and memorable books for your own family or are wanting to give someone a unique gift I recommend you check out Home Grown Books! Home Grown Books also offers other reading sets such as The City and Country Set, The Environmental Set, and The Play Set.

Now for the best part...Home Grown Books is giving away the Little Adventure set ($30 value) to three winners! This is an Instagram giveaway. Head over to our Instagram page and repost the image below, tag @lilstylefile and @homegrownbooks in the comment and use the hashtag #TLSFbookgiveaway.

How to Make School Year Memory Books

With school just getting out for Summer break, I am realizing what a full year my girls had with all of the artwork, projects and homework that came flooding in. We have stacks. We have piles. We have nowhere to put all of it! I feel guilty throwing all of their hard work away, and I really do want to remember all of their creations in the years to come. It dawned on me that I could take pictures of their most special projects and moments from this last school year and put them in a book - a School Year Memory Book. Books take up very little space and I could toss the actual stacks of creations!  Enter my newest obsession...Artifact Uprising.

It is SO easy to import photos and create books! They have many different sizes, but I love the little 5.5” x 5.5” softcover books. The paper is really great quality and for 40 pages, it’s only $12.99!

For Zoe’s Second Grade book, I included photos of so many special moments from the year, not even school related. She was SO proud of her report on Arctic Foxes, so I definitely included that. The books are small (or large if you want to go bigger!), so I can still enjoy the memories without the storage problems!  I also left some pages blank and just included a few lines about each child, what they like, who they are, etc...

For Delia’s book, I included photos I took in her dance recital costume, pictures of her favorite books she likes to read, and more little snippets of info about who she is at 6 years old.

These little books make GREAT gifts for grandparents, as well! I’ve made several now, all with different themes. Are you on Instagram? They even have Instagram-friendly books, too! Once you get started with their fun and easy format, you’ll spend hours just plugging in photos! Have fun!

Little Yogi

Last week my three year old daughter, Madeline, and I attended a Parents As Teachers kids yoga playgroup.  The description sounded fun and we are all about fit and healthy kids so we decided to give it a try.  Little did I know my Madeline would fall in love with kids yoga and incorporate into our every day routine. Our kids yoga class was taught by Reese Emery Ryzewski, author of The Yoga ABC's.   She is a fitness expert and brought a copy of the book for each family to take home.  The best part of The Yoga ABC's is that the book lies open flat so kids can pick a page, look at the illustration and do the pose.  As Madeline says, "I can do yoga ALL BY MYSELF."  And she really can!

Look at that smile!  It started at A and didn't let up until way past Z.  As it turns out, kids yoga is great for little bodies and it's really easy to get your family started.  Here's a little inspiration...

Bossy Baby Chronicles & a Giveaway!

When people told me that boys were hard to potty training, they weren't lying! Dylan is 3 and it has been a struggle from the beginning to potty train him! He was first scared to sit on the toilet. I bought a potty seat and it remedied that problem. For a few weeks he was doing very well and now getting him to sit on the potty when I know he has to go to the bathroom is a chore! I was beyond excited when I was introduced to Bossy Baby Chronicles! Alexis Tande created books and reward charts for her own Bossy Babies is now offering them to everyone! She creates personalized books with charts for potty training, going to school and behavior!

Bossy Baby Chronicles

Bossy Baby Chronicles

What I like about the Bossy Baby Chronicles personalized potty book is that it is simple and to the point. Dylan loves reading it with both Daddy and myself and is very proud when he hears his name! After reading the book a couple of times, Dylan would tell us what he needs to do. He loves placing a sticker on the chart once he completes a potty task.

I will be honest that potty training is still a work in process but Bossy Baby Chronicles is helping the process in our house!

I love the idea of the behavior reward chart and that might be arriving in our house very soon!;)

Alexis is giving one lucky reader a personalized Bossy Baby Chronicles Book of their choice!

a Rafflecopter giveaway Disclosure: I was provided with a personalized book and reward chart from Bossy Baby Chronicles for review. My opinion is honest and my own.
