Pan: Chasing The Keeper

Pan, my favorite little panda heroine, is back in her new adventure storybook app Pan: Chasing The Keeper.

Thankfully, Since my daughter has been asking for more Pandora (while playing and re-reading the first book) every day this past Summer and Fall.

This much-anticipated sequel to Hullabalu's Pan: The Fearless Beribolt- which has become iTunes’ number 1 storybook app in 15 countries- stars Pandora, a fearless and energetic purple panda on a quest to find her parents. With central themes of courage, perseverance, and integrity (not to mention a strong female protagonist- rare in adventure stories), this tale and character have become quite beloved in our family.

So what’s the scoop on Pan: Chasing The Keeper? Simply, it’s a wonderful app featuring new wacky friends, but the same spunky Pandora on the next phase of her journey. This series continues to be genuinely funny- even for parents. A few of the asides uttered by Pandora’s new crew went way over four year-old Nora’s head but made me laugh out loud. (And yes, when’s the last time you legitimately LOL’d?)

Some chapters focus on Pan’s training and allow for some fun hand-eye coordination games, while others feature an abundance of ever-changing conversations, hidden objects, and nods to other favorite tales of adventure. (Star Wars and Aladdin were two notably hilarious references.)

Both books in the Pandora series highlight the importance of trial and error, learning from mistakes, and being a leader. Pan: Chasing The Keeper is a great tale that will legitimately be enjoyed by the whole family.

Which is a good thing since, once you download these apps, you’ll probably never get your iPhone back.

Download Pan: Chasing The Keeper on iTunes here, free for a limited time!

Pan: The Fearless Beribolt

How do you feel about spirited pandas? Cloud adventures? Interactive stories specifically geared towards the Little Kid set? If you answered with an emphatic “aw,” then have I got the app for you!

Pan: The Fearless Beribolt is the tale of Pandora, a supposedly orphaned panda living in the clouds, and her quest to find her family. Created by the NYC-based company Hullabalu, this book is the first in the Pan adventure series. And it’s absolutely adorable.

My preschooler loved swiping the action along; feeding Pan and her friends, discovering hidden toys, and listening to the dialogue between her favorite characters. The words are highlighted throughout Pan’s journey, making it easy for even the smallest “reader” to follow along. The plot is simple, but with enough charm and humor (and hidden mini games!) to make it fun for all age ranges- yes, even parents. A scrolling bar along the bottom of the screen allows readers to jump along to the part of the story where they left off (or where they want to revisit and practice their boomerang training, for example).

At the end of the tale, we had fun playing around with Pan’s Photobooth, letting us insert our faces into panda ears, a rainbow backdrop, and a bushy mustache, among others. And these cute pix can be emailed, Tweeted, or uploaded to Facebook for easy (and beyond cute) sharing.

The next book in this sweet series is already on my daughter’s wish list. She gives Pan: The Fearless Beribolt two enthusiastic thumbs up- or will as soon as I pry them from my iPhone.

Available on iTunes for a special price of .99 cents this week!

Now compatible with iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad

5 Must Have Kid Apps!

Summer is the time for road trips and family vacations. As parents we try to do everything we can to keep our little ones happy in the car and plane! Kristin gave such great advice for road trips on Monday. We love a good iphone or ipad app that will keep our kids busy and quiet for longer than 5 minutes! I have to admit that we have tried an array of apps and some have been BAD and others have been GREAT! Here are five applications that both you and your kids will love! We are big fans of BOB Books and were thrilled when we found they had BOB apps! They have several different apps but we use Reading Magic Lite and love it!

Crayola Lights, Camera & Color! It is a fun app that both my kids and I have fun using! You are able to snap a picture or use one that is already in your library, you vaccum the color out of the picture and the kids get to color it!

PBS Kids is an awesome app and especially great for the ipad! (it can be used on the iphone as well). Your kids will be able to watch all of their favorite PBS Kids shows!

Teach me Toddler and Teach me Kindergarten are two apps that I absolutely adore for my kids! They both could play them for hours!

Lego App 4+ is one of Dylan's favorite games to play on my phone! He loves buiding his own trucks and seeing it come to life and than picking up cargo! It is an interactive puzzel that it is a lot of fun!

What are your kids favorite apps?

Share them with us on facebook!
