Glam Holiday Dresses for Girls

Its officially November and that means we will soon be knee deep in planning for the Holiday season. I try to plan early in November for the events that our family will attend during the holiday season and the special Holiday outfits that are needed. A few years ago I waited too long and everything I liked for my kids, was sold out. I learned my lesson to plan ahead. Mia is 9 years old and has had her own since of style, since I can remember. She is very particular when it comes to what she wears. Its hard for me to shop without her. girls holiday dresses

We were recently introduced to the online boutique Girls Dress Shop they have Glam dresses that are age appropriate for girls newborn to 12, that will be sure to add some holiday sparkle this season. Mia was excited to take sometime together and do some online shopping to pick out the perfect holiday dress.  After much deliberation, she narrowed it down to the Harlow dress.

The Harlow is a classic dress in ivory with black lace. It is a dress she can wear multiple times this holidays season. We can easily change her hair, accessories and add a cardigan or shrug when the colder temperatures hit.

Family Style Friday: Fair Isle

It's our favorite time of year, the leaves are changing and families all over are planning outfits for their holiday card photo sessions!  This Friday we're featuring some of our favorite mix and match family outfits from Hanna Andersson.

It's always nice when brands do a "Family" section because you know colors within the collection will coordinate and it makes picking outfits simpler without having everyone matching in the same pattern.

Hanna Andersson Fair Isle These little sweater reindeer overalls could be my favorite thing ever.  The sister outfits coordinate and repeat the snowflakes but are not too matchy-matchy.

You can find all of the pieces in this style board in the Holiday North Star collection in Hanna Andersson's Family Shop.

Are you taking family photos soon and need a little help with what to wear?  TLSF Styling Team can take the stress out of your family photo session.  You worry about how you're going to bribe the kids, we'll take care of the outfits.  For info, send an email to info@thelittlestylefile.com.

Mother's Day is just around the corner. When it comes to receiving and giving gifts for Mother's Day my personal favorites are those that are from the heart. I love when my kids craft me something from their own heart and made with love. Personalized art that I can enjoy everyday is another favorite. Minted has some very special gifts that will make any mom happy on Mother's Day this year! The best part of shopping for Mother's Day gifts with Minted,  all purchases benefit Every Mother Counts.

Sister Style with Matilda Jane

Matilda Jane knows how to coordinate prints.  My girls first wore Matilda Jane for photos when Madeline was 9 months old and Ellie was 3.  Here we are almost 5 years later and I am loving this collection more than ever.  Meet the Spring/Summer 2015 Matilda Jane Hello, Lovely collection!

Because of Matilda Jane's great patterns, it makes layering for Spring and Fall easy and fun.  Easter in the midwest is always a gamble, even in April.  We had a great Chicago day but still needed layers to skip the jackets.  Madeline's knot dress has a 3/4 length tee under it with the most adorable ruffled leggings.

Madeline is super slim, even leggings can be too big in the waist!  The adjustable straps of the knot dress plus the sash in the back really make this dress feel custom for her slender frame.

Ellie has a sweater from the new Tween Collection, 435, over her dancer tank dress.  The subtle pattern under the tulle on the dancer dress is the same as the apron on the knot dress.  It's those little details that tie the looks together and make photos look cohesive.

The new Matilda Jane Collection, Hello Lovely, just had its first summer release and it's packed with the cutest looks for girls this summer.  Here are a few of my favorite outfits.

You can view the entire Hello Lovely collection for baby, girls, tweens and women at MatildaJaneClothing.com.

Thanks to Matilda Jane for providing outfits for this post.  All opinions are honest and my own.

Easy St. Patrick's Day Dessert- Pot O' Gold Truffles

Although there seem to be an ever-increasing amount of healthy St. Patrick's Day desserts out there, I am going to the other end of the spectrum. This particular dessert is rich in many ways (See what I did there? Pot o' gold? Rich? ;) and so easy, I was able to mostly make it one-handed while rocking my 3 month old last year. I came up with the idea after looking at the masses of Girl Scout Cookies I just had delivered, particularly the Thin Mints. Yes, I could freeze them and in a chocolate-craving-frenzy cram the whole sleeve in my mouth one night, or I could create a new dessert out of them for an upcoming party. I did my jeans a favor and proceeded to do the latter.

Pot O' Gold Truffles

  • 1 package Girl Scout Thin Mint or Keebler Grasshopper Cookies (9 oz)
  • 1/2 package softened cream cheese (4 oz)
  • 1 bag chocolate chips, melting chocolate, etc... (12 oz)
  • Gold sprinkles or edible glitter

Directions

Use a food processor to crush the cookies into crumbs. Mix in the cream cheese. Roll 1 in balls out of the mixture and place on a cookie sheet covered with wax paper or nonstick mat. Stick in the refrigerator for a half hour to solidify before rolling in chocolate. When they are solid enough, melt the chocolate in a double boiler or microwave (if using a microwave, be careful not to burn the chocolate!). Roll balls in chocolate and place back on cookie sheet. Place a small spoonful of gold sprinkles directly on top; you can make an indentation after they have set up in the fridge for a bit if you want them to look more like "pots." Let them firm up in the refrigerator for a few minutes so the chocolate firms up and you are good to go!

What are your favorite St. Patrick's Day recipes?
